Lower Trail- Huntingdon

The Lower Rail Trail (Lower rhymes with flower) is a multi-use route that follows the historic Pennsylvania Mainline Canal. Along the way, the trail passes a number of canal ruins, including locks, stone piers, and the foundations of houses that were once the homes of the lock tenders who worked this waterway. Benches located along the length of the trail provide quiet places to sit while taking in the surrounding scenery and the picturesque Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River, which parallels the route. Beginning about a quarter mile west of the Williamsburg Trailhead, 2 miles of the trail are paved for easy wheelchair access. This trail can be done as an out-and-back route, or as a point-to-point hike by parking a car at either end
